August 11 we celebrated the first anniversary of the opening of our museum. On this occasion, our collections have increased by a unique exhibit - a reprint copy of the Gutenberg Bible of Pelplin.
Pelplin bible is one of 19 copies of the two-volume Bible that survived until now.
Poland's only copy of "the most expensive book in the world" is hold the Diocesan Museum of Bishop Stanislaw Wojciech Okoniewski in Pelplin.
Dozens of people and Japanese machines worked for two years to make a brand new book look like 550 years old.
The reprint found in our collection is unlike any other that arose earlier. Reprints made by the French or Germans looked like new. In this one all is like the original: raised print, damp spots, and even a print a font that the printer dropped out of the hand and bounced on the page. If the type-setter happened in a hurry to put paper in reverse with a watermark, it is also located opposite. The facsimile contains all the dirt and traces left on the cards over time.
In 2003 Pope John Paul II received the first copy of Pelplin reprint. In our collection we have a copy with number 5
