On Wednesday, May 22 the museum held a meeting with a remarkable man, a scholar of international importance, a politician, a Christian activist - prof. Dr. Herbert Schambeck.
Huge emotions with which Mr. Professor watched our collections of coins, medals and other memorabilia of his great friend and closest companion, John Paul II, were the greatest reward that could be obtained for the effort and dedication involved in setting up and running the museum.
After seeing the collections The Professor met a group of the most trusted colleagues and friends of our Museum. Professor referring to the teachings of John Paul II spoke of the need for ecumenism. As his personal failure he pointed to longterm talks with the highest authorities of Russia and the Orthodox Church on the Holy Father's pilgrimage to the country. He also mentioned his speech at the United Nations where, in the spirit of encyclicals of Pope John Paul II he frequently reminded of the need for solidarity, both international and interpersonal including in relation to vulnerable groups.
Professor Herbert Schambeck also mentioned the person of Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski - Primate of the Millennium, whose political wisdom and determination made great impression in Vatican in times of predecessors of John Paul II. He also stated that our country is considered as the heart of one great United Europe.
The professor spoke about his service as a "Knight of His Holiness." The tradition of closest advisers of the Holy Father goes back to the 6th century AD. As the Professor stated it is the highest honor that can happen to a lay person in the service of church.
The Professor was awarded with a silver medal of our Museum. In return, our collections enriched with beloved by Austrians Empress Maria Theresa.
We invite you to watch a short photo report of the meeting.
